For utility and infrastructure organisations the current operating conditions provide challenging operational conditions.  As we focus on maintaining asset performance and also protecting Health and Safety for staff what opportunities and insights are created which provide for innovation in the medium to long terms as we apply strategic asset management?

Even during normal operations, network operators must give high priority to their construction, maintenance and fault clearance measures. Measures are often postponed or re-scheduled at short notice.  A well-rehearsed re-scheduling contributes significantly to achieving the targets in network operation. In the future, qualified personnel and service providers will become even scarcer. At the same time, the backlog of renewal in the networks will make ageing equipment more susceptible to faults.

The current pandemic shows which success factors make re-scheduling effective and ensure optimal decisions under time pressure. Learning from these experiences helps network operators to set the right course to master normal operations and crises even better in the future.
